Maintaining the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Senator Roger Marshall has joined legislation to protect the United States Embassy in Jerusalem.

US Senator Roger Marshall (R-Kan.) Says he joined a group of 34 other colleagues to present the Maintaining the 1995 Jerusalem Embassy Act in order to protect the full and faithful implementation of the law and to block President Joe Biden’s administration from efforts to subvert it.

“The Biden administration is prepared to ignore US law and the wishes of the Israeli government in order to divide and win political points with the radical anti-Israel Democrats in Congress,” said Senator Marshall. “Instead of standing with our ally, expanding the Abrahamic Accords and prioritizing stability and peace in the Middle East, President Biden continues to undermine the State of Israel. I am proud to stand with Israel and my colleagues in the US Senate as we fight to stop the Biden administration from opening an illegal US consulate. Rather, we need to focus on the immediate threats against Israel and the United States, including – regional terrorist groups backed by Iran and Iran’s continued pursuit of a nuclear weapon.

Under the Trump administration, Marshall said the United States had fully implemented the law by officially recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel on December 6, 2017, moving the country’s embassy to Jerusalem on May 14, 2018. He also shut down the United States. Consulate General for the Palestinians and merged its functions into the new Palestinian affairs unit of the United States Embassy in Jerusalem under the authority of the United States Ambassador to the Head of Mission of Israel.

Prior to the legislation, Marshall said the US consulate for Palestine had previously operated completely outside the authority of the US ambassador to Israel’s head of mission.
