US Embassy Dhaka staff wear T-shirts in solidarity with bullied teacher

The U.S. Embassy Dhaka community yesterday joined all Bangladeshis in expressing their concern over the harassment this week of a teacher for wearing a T-shirt.

“By wearing our own t-shirt, we celebrate the diversity of Bangladesh and stand in solidarity with all who have been harassed,” according to the tweet from the US Embassy in Bangladesh along with a photo.

Lata Samaddar, a teacher at Tejgaon College, complained that a police officer harassed her and hurled abusive words at her after seeing a teep on her forehead as she walked to campus on April 2, 2022.

Amid outrage on social media and beyond, Dhaka Metropolitan Police suspended constable Nazmul Tareque on Monday, accused of harassing the university professor for wearing a T-shirt.
